What is a visit to the Museum like?

Strike a power pose with Matilda, come face-to-face with Fantastic Mr Fox, and discover Roald Dahl's famous Writing Hut, the birthplace of your favourite characters.

Visitors can freely explore the Museum and interact with our hands-on exhibits. Our marvellous Museum Assistants will be on hand to answer any questions throughout your visit.

You may be able to take part in additional activities during your visit; take a look at our What's On page on our website to find out what's coming up and when (some activities incur an additional cost and some must be booked in advance).

Do I need to book?

We recommend booking online, this can be done at: www.roalddahlmuseum.org

If you haven't pre-booked, tickets can usually be purchased on the door on the day of your visit. Please note, we can't always guarantee on-the-door availability during peak times such as half-term holidays.

If you're having trouble booking online, you can call us on 01494 892192 or email us at hello@roalddahlmuseum.org. Our phone line can get very busy during peak times, so please book online if you can.

Can I book or buy tickets on the day?

We recommend pre-booking your tickets, but you can usually buy tickets on the door on the day (although availability may not be guaranteed during peak times such as half-term holidays).

If the Museum is busy when you arrive, we may have to ask you to come back later to maintain a comfortable visitor experience for everyone.

Do I need to arrive at a specific time?

When you book in advance, you’ll select an arrival time slot; please aim to arrive as promptly as possible at the time you have booked, to help us spread out visitors throughout the day.

Last entry is 1 hour before the Museum closes; see our website for more details.

How long does a visit take?

We recommend allowing at least 90 minutes to explore the Museum, however many of our visitors stay longer!

How much does it cost?

Our ticket prices are £9.95 for adults and children aged 5-18. We offer a discounted ticket at £7.95 for concessions (aged 65 and over), fulltime students over 18 and for people who are registered disabled. Under 5's and carers go free.

Your ticket is valid for a whole year, so you can come back and visit us as many times as you like. If you're a UK taxpayer, you can help us out even more by applying Gift Aid to your ticket at no extra cost.

Can I use a voucher?

If you have a Golden Ticket please call us on 01494 892 192 to book (booking line open Mon-Fri). If you are a Blue Peter Badge holder, carer or annual return visit, these can all be booked online.

Is there any parking at the Museum?

The Museum is located in the middle of Great Missenden High Street, so we do not have any on-site parking facilities. However, there are 2 Pay & Display carparks located in Link Road, a short, 5 minute walk from the Museum.

Do you have a café on site?

We have Canny Café operating a kiosk service in our courtyard space, serving hot and cold drinks, sandwiches and cakes. They are open from 10.30am till 3.30pm throughout school holidays, and weekends in term-time.

How do I book my annual return visit?

Admission tickets are valid for 12 months. You can pre-book your return visit via our website, selecting the "Annual Return Visit." You will be asked to enter the booking reference associated with your original ticket. This can be found on your email confirmation or till receipt.

Are dogs allowed at the Museum?

Please note that no dogs - except assistance dogs - are allowed in the Museum, Shop, Café or courtyard at any time.
